Efficient solutions for user profile management with Appsense

As a specialist medical center and central hospital the General Hospital Linz (AKh Linz) contributes considerably to a first class health care provision for the region of Upper Austria. Their aim to become the best and most efficient hospital of Upper Austria also makes great demands to the IT-structure of this health care business. The decision to consult X-tech in order to find an ideal solution for the sector of user profile management, took the AKh Linz two steps closer to their goal.

Consulting by X-tech

“Profile management has been an issue for a while and we were looking for a good approach,” Thomas Reitböck, IT-administrator working for the IKT Linz Infrastrukur and responsible for the Akh Linz, describes the initial situation. “Different personnel is logged into different work stations, to some extent at the same time. Over and over again there were changes in the settings which had to be reset manually where necessary.This required high support expenses from the IT-administration.” During this early project phase Reitböck and his colleagues approached X-tech with the problem. Not a coincidence since the IKT Linz Infrastruktur GmbH and X-tech have been cooperating for a few years. Together with the IT-administrator the X-tech experts analyzed the situation. Reitböck: “We looked at different products and naturally examined the costs very carefully.”

Appsense convinces
In the final stages, Appsense clearly established itself. X-tech managing director Peter Höfer on this decision: “It became clear very quickly that the options to personalize guidelines and custom data found in the profile management of the Environment Manager are an urgent requirement of the Akh Linz. In rapid succession it was decided to conduct a pilot installation for one department with 30 users. Additionally, it was possible to draw a convincing conclusion from the comparison of costs and technics. What was even more important to Thomas Reitböck, however, were the extensive possibilities that the Appsense user profile management offers: “With the rollback function you can easily reset all changes made to the user-specific settings, even in individual applications like Outlook or Word. That's a feature which, in this way, only Appsense possesses.”

Fast log in and easy administration
After integrating the profile management system into the existing IT-infrastructure of the surgical department, another advantage very quickly became apparent: Log-in time could be dramatically reduced. An important aspect, as Thomas Reitböck points out: “The time factor is, naturally, very important in a hospital.” Next to the qualities important to ensure a functioning business, Appsense was able to impress significantly with other qualities. In times of decreasingly disposable budgets, the IT-department at IKT Linz Infrastruktur GmbH can be pleased with a simplified and timesaving maintenance and management of the user profiles. This makes time for other, more important tasks. Reitböck: “This solution really does save us  a lot of time in IT-administration.”

Excellent cooperation
Thomas Reitböck's conclusion is nothing but laudatory: “As always, X-tech support worked out perfectly. X-tech played an important role in connecting us with the manufacturers.” The IT-expert also expresses his appreciation for the Appsense team: “Not only did the Appsense application convince me, the cooperation was truly excellent.” X-tech president Peter Höfer also nominates the efficient and direct communication as one of the key factors: “During the pilot phase Mr. Reitböck and Appsense communicated optimally and all customer feedback was relayed to the developers as an important requirement and implemented adequately.”

Further commission to implement the environment manager
Praise that Falko Lucas, project leader of Appsense, can only return: “I was really very impressed with the committed and active cooperation from our client's end. The IT-team of IKT Linz GmbH used our support hotline optimally – we had intensive, productive contact during the course of the entire project.” Naturally, not everything went smoothly right away, but “by cooperating with X-tech we managed to overcome all obstacles. It worked like a charm,” Lucas explains. It's obvious to Falko Lucas that this successful pilot project will serve as a basis for other environments. An estimation that turned out to be just right: Not long ago, IKT Linz Infrastruktur GmbH entrusted X-tech with implementing the Appsense environment manager in another section of the Akh Linz.
